The Azure Hut

The Azure Hut Wordpress theme features a clean two-column design, with a distinct split between the content (on the right) and navigation (on the left) areas.

There’s a small header at the top of the azure blue left-hand column and the sidebar is widget-ready. The theme also has social bookmarking links built into the information area about posts.

The theme package includes Photoshop files for the logo and sidebar titles.

GimpStyle

GimpStyle is a simple two-column Wordpress theme with a grey header and navigation bar running full width across the top of the page. Then follows a clear layout with nice typography and a left-hand sidebar.

The theme is valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional and the CSS is valid, too. The theme is available in English or Spanish versions.

There’s nothing flashy or fancy about GimpStyle. It’s a minimal, stylish theme that will allow the stories and images you post to shine.

Plane Jane

Plane Jane is a simple two-column theme with light text on a dark background, drawing a little inspiration from well-known Mac website Daring Fireball.

The content runs in the main left-hand column, while there’s a top navigation bar and more room to play with in the right-hand sidebar.

The content and navigation is sharp and the typography is crystal clear.

Elixir

Elixir from whalesalad is a dark, two-column Wordpress theme with a splash of bright colour (and I do mean bright) in the header area.

It comes in a choice of five colours: classic pink; cool blue; lime green; smooth purple; or bright orange.

The theme has a Web 2.0 feel without going over the top. It has clear typography and a well set-out navigation area in the left-hand column.

Lemon Twist

The colours are actually more lime than lemon, but nonetheless Lemon Twist is an impressive Wordpress theme that could prove useful for both business and personal sites.

WP Premium

Despite the name, WP Premium is a free theme. But it does offer some impressive ‘premium’ features, including the option to choose between two or three columns.

WP Premium is also widget-ready and has a choice of three stylish colour schemes: brown, black or soft red.

The template is designed with advertising built in to the right sidebar and has easy to edit code.

Cubismo

Cubismo is a clean and simple, widget-ready, two-column Wordpress theme. The layout includes a horizontal menu, highlighted page navigation and also a page menu in the footer.

I’m not a big fan of the chequered background but it would be easy to substitute a different background image into the template.

Otherwise, the colours and typography are excellent and the content is very easy to read.

Neoclassical

The Neoclassical theme for WordPress is a simple and elegant template system that offers classical styling, rich typography and huge random header images. It’s created by Chris Pearson, who also made themes such as Cutline and Copyblogger.

This three-column theme lives and breathes courtesy of its elegant typography, which makes your content pop.

It’s worth noting this is a sponsored theme, with a sponsored link inserted in the footer. Despite that downside, it’s a beautiful template for bloggers looking for a three-column solution.

PocketT

PocketT is a simple one-column Wordpress theme with clear navigation across the top and an ‘about’ box built in above the main content of the blog.

The typography is clear and crisp, with just the right amount of emphasis on metadata such as post dates and categories.

There are five different header images available for the theme (all with a green-ish tinge) but it would be simple to add your own if you have some limited Photoshop skills.
