Rio is a sexy and modern yet remarkably simple Wordpress theme with a large header image, a simple text navigation bar and one column of recent posts.

It’s hard to categorise the Fontella Wordpress theme given it has one column in its main body but three columns in the footer.
The theme essentially puts a great deal of emphasis on a single post, and the provides previous posts and categories in the footer.
The template has big fonts and a simple design. It could be used for a personal blog, a business website or with a bit of tweaking even a magazine-style website that publishes one story a day.
If you have great content but a low turnover of posts, this theme could be just for you.

PocketT is a simple one-column Wordpress theme with clear navigation across the top and an ‘about’ box built in above the main content of the blog.
The typography is clear and crisp, with just the right amount of emphasis on metadata such as post dates and categories.
There are five different header images available for the theme (all with a green-ish tinge) but it would be simple to add your own if you have some limited Photoshop skills.

Less is more. Vostok is a clean and elegant one-column Wordpress theme design which keeps the focus on your words, images and videos rather than on any design elements.
The theme has light text on a dark background, stylish and very legible typography, and a simple footer to display categories and information about the site.
As the theme author puts it: “Vostok is for those who don’t want attention to be distracted from content. Colors and typography have been carefully chosen to achieve maximum legibility with minimum eye fatigue. Also, code has been written with extreme care for web standards and accessibility.”

Flirtatia bills itself as sassy, understated and, of course, flirtatious. It’s all of those, plus simple and effective.
The colours are largely white-and-grey but like any good flirt has a splash of red. It’s a one-column Wordpress theme with blog navigation and archives appearing at the bottom of the template.

Pros:
- Very clean, minimalist design
- Effective header image that should also be simple to change
- Beautiful typography
- Very effective and appealing line separators between stories on the front page
Cons:
- Default install doesn’t include Widgets.

The name says it all. When it comes to Wordpress themes, it really doesn’t get much simpler than Simplr, one of a number of excellent themes designed by Scott Allan Wallick of Plaintxt.org.
The front page of this Wordpress template is elegant in its simplicity: it displays just a single post.

Pros:
- Very clean, minimalist design
- Built-in options menu allows simple control over typography and layout
- Standards compliant
- Robust stylesheet and separate print stylesheet
- Widget ready
Cons:
- I’m not a big fan of the default typography settings, though these are easily changed via the Wordpress options menu
