Simple White

Simple White is – surprise, surprise – a simple, white, very easy to read WordPress theme.

It’s a two-column theme based on the beautiful Elite theme but with a plain colour scheme.

The theme is also available with Teal and Yellow color schemes, though plain black and white is the pick of the bunch.

Brodie

Brodie is a black-and-white, two-column Wordpress theme with a pseudo-newspaper feel and excellent typography.

I say pseudo-newspaper because although the black and white and the layout has a newspapery feel to it, the typography is all sans serif, so it’s not entirely print inspired.

Different elements such as blockquotes, lists and the sidebar are beautifully styled, and the theme boasts an effective horizontal navigation bar below the header and a nice wide main content area.

Cutline

Cutline, originally created by Chris Pearson, is an easily customisable, black and white Wordpress theme with a large header image and navigation bar. Pearson and his successors as custodians of Cutline (he sold it) have provided a lot of tips for tinkering with the theme.

The theme is also optimised for search engines, has classes written for smooth handling of images, and allows for random rotation of header images.

Pros:

  • Simple, stylish design
  • Quality typography
  • Easy to customise
  • Good online tutorials for tweaking the theme
  • Optimised for search engines

Cons:

  • Perhaps a little too popular for its own good. You certainly won’t be alone using Cutline.
