Mimbo

Mimbo is a classy magazine-style WordPress theme with built-in ad space, thumbnail functionality and an easy to navigate design.

Mimbo was amongst the first free magazine themes released, paving the way for a whole new category of WordPress themes, both free and premium. Although there’s also a premium version of Mimbo, called Mimbo Pro, the free version has been updated considerably since it first launched and remains a worthy member of the magazine-style theme field.

The theme features two levels of navigation (Pages and Categories) and can highlight a great range of content on the homepage. Other features include:

Nouice

Nouice is a two-column WordPress theme with a simple design highlighting posts in a way that’s somewhat reminiscent of a Polaroid photograph.

The theme has a clean blue background and an elegant, modern appearance. It could service almost any kind of blog.

Be warned: comments are not built in to this theme.

Abstract

Abstract is a beautifully illustrated and colourful theme that resulted from a collaboration between well-known web designer Veerle Pieters and Woo Themes.

The theme has a fun yet professional presentation that’s flexible enough for use as either a business theme or a personal theme.

Who’s Who is a stylish and elegant magazine-style theme for WordPress; it’s spread over three columns, uses a lot of thumbnails and features a blue and grey colour scheme.

Simply Ornate

Simply Ornate features a simple layout and an ornate background, combining to create a beautiful, extremely usable free WordPress theme.

The theme includes a tab effect in the right sidebar that allows users to browse latest posts, comments and tags.

The front page is set up to show excerpts of the 4 latest posts, and also includes a mini-nav in the upper right side to allow for page navigation.

For a free theme, this is a seriously professional design with a lot of neat goodies included.
