Mimbo is a classy magazine-style WordPress theme with built-in ad space, thumbnail functionality and an easy to navigate design.
Mimbo was amongst the first free magazine themes released, paving the way for a whole new category of WordPress themes, both free and premium. Although there’s also a premium version of Mimbo, called Mimbo Pro, the free version has been updated considerably since it first launched and remains a worthy member of the magazine-style theme field.
The theme features two levels of navigation (Pages and Categories) and can highlight a great range of content on the homepage. Other features include:
- A script that pulls images automatically from the post body, then resizes them with TimThumb for the homepage;
- Support for sticky posts, comment pagination, threaded comments, wp_logout_url, and the rest of the new features of WP 2.7;
- Featured categories – a custom control panel sets featured categories with a configurable number of headlines, which appear on the homepage;
- 125×125 ad support via the WP125 plugin and its companion widget;
- Multi-level dropdown menus;
- Better custom archives – a custom template that displays posts by month, plus pagination;
- Better author archives;

Nouice is a two-column WordPress theme with a simple design highlighting posts in a way that’s somewhat reminiscent of a Polaroid photograph.
The theme has a clean blue background and an elegant, modern appearance. It could service almost any kind of blog.
Be warned: comments are not built in to this theme.

Simply Ornate features a simple layout and an ornate background, combining to create a beautiful, extremely usable free WordPress theme.
The theme includes a tab effect in the right sidebar that allows users to browse latest posts, comments and tags.

Typebased is a gorgeous free personal blog design theme, with a very clean and elegant style.
For a free theme, this is a seriously professional design with a lot of neat goodies included.
The theme includes: integrated banner ad management; Widgetized sidebar, including some specific custom widgets.
The theme also comes in five different colour schemes: default blue; brown; green; grey; and yellow.
Yummy.
